Lotus has taken a knife to pricing of its first electric SUV, the Eletre, with reductions of up to $49,010.

The company says the model year 2025 price revision will be applied to customer cars already built.

Model year 2024 Eletre S and Eletre R SUVs are expected in Australia in June, after production began in April, with production of the base Eletre moved forward from 2025 to the third quarter of 2024.

Lotus says this means customers who order a base Eletre now have a “real chance” of taking delivery in 2024.

Despite the price cuts, Lotus has added some equipment to the mid-range Eletre S, which has received a standard glass roof and the five-seat Comfort Seat Pack.

Akoya White is the standard finish on the base Eletre, while a new Cinnibar Red replaces Natron Red.

Lotus has removed LiDAR hardware from the standard equipment list for all 2025 Eletres, though it remains within the optional Highway Assist Pack.

The company says it received feedback from Australian consumers who “placed little value in the upfront inclusion of the LiDAR hardware in the base build specification of the car”.

“Most consumers doubt autonomous driving will be seen anytime soon in Australia and didn’t want to be paying for hardware they won’t be using,” the company said.

Buyers after an Eletre will be able to configure their vehicle online and place a refundable reservation deposit to secure a slot in the build queue.

Lotus has stressed it isn’t adopting a direct to consumer sales model, and instead customers will be contacted by their local Lotus retailer who will help them order and take delivery of their vehicle.

The company has five dealerships, across Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
