GWM Australia is introducing its first plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) early in 2025, which it claims will offer class-leading electric range.
The 2025 GWM Haval H6 GT PHEV is due on sale here during the first quarter of 2025 (January to March inclusive), priced at $55,990 drive-away.
It’s now available for pre-order.
The Haval H6 GT PHEV features a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 110kW and 230Nm, mated with two electric motors at the front plus another at the rear with 135kW and 232Nm.
Total system outputs are 342kW and 762Nm, while the 0-100km/h sprint takes a claimed 4.9 seconds.

The Haval H6 GT PHEV features a large 35.4kWh battery pack, offering an electric range of up to 180km on the NEDC cycle.
GWM says that with a full tank of fuel and a full charge, the Haval H6 GT PHEV has more than 1000km of range.
The battery can be charged at up to 6.6kW using AC power or 48kW using DC power, with the latter allowing it to be charged from 30 to 80 per cent in “as little as 26 minutes”.
As with the regular Haval H6 GT, it’ll be offered exclusively with all-wheel drive and in Ultra trim.
That means standard equipment will include features like a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, a power tailgate, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
The standard Haval H6 GT is being offered until the end of the year at $41,990 drive-away, representing a saving of $4500 off the regular drive-away price.
This means the PHEV carries a $14,000 premium, though it also has more than twice the power and torque of the petrol model (150kW/320Nm).
For context, the BYD Sealion 6 in all-wheel drive guise is priced at $52,990 before on-road costs, and delivers 238kW and 550Nm while offering a claimed 81km of electric range.
The most affordable Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is priced at $57,290 before on-roads and produces 185kW and 450Nm, with a claimed 84km of range.
“GWM has addressed one of the biggest customer concerns around ‘range anxiety’, providing a solution that will be best-in-class,” said GWM Haval Australia marketing and communications boss Steve Maciver.
“This model is a significant milestone for GWM, showcasing our commitment to pioneering EV solutions that enhance the driving experience without compromise.”
