Cupra’s first electric SUV is due in Australia by the end of the year, and the Spanish brand has detailed the local lineup.

It isn’t disclosing pricing until closer to the Tavascan’s launch late in the fourth quarter (October to December) of this year, but has confirmed the base Endurance will be priced slightly above the top-spec, petrol-powered Formentor VZx.

That means a price north of $65,790 before on-road costs.

Cupra also says all Tavascan models will fall below the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold of $91,387, allowing them to qualify for Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemptions.

Tavascan models will be offered in a choice of standard Atacama Desert or White Silver exterior finishes, with Basalt Grey and Tavascan Blue finishes costing extra.

The Tavascan shares its MEB dedicated electric vehicle (EV) architecture with the Born hatchback, as well as other models within the Volkswagen Group empire such as the Volkswagen ID. Buzz.

Cupra says the Tavascan is the first step in a “massive” 12 months for the brand.

It’s also introducing the new mid-sized Terramar crossover, which will offer both petrol and plug-in hybrid power, as well as updated versions of the Formentor and Leon.

For the first time, the latter will be available in Sportstourer wagon guise.

Formentor and Leon models will also get a longer-range plug-in hybrid powertrain, offering up to 100km of electric range on a full charge.
