Citroen is introducing its first electrified vehicle in Australia, with the C5 X Plug-in Hybrid now available to order.

You’ll need to order one, too, with Citroen saying this is the only way you’ll be able to get one – don’t expect dealer lots filled with C5 X Plug-in Hybrids, then.

The French brand says customers ordering their plug-in hybrid (PHEV) can expect to take delivery from the fourth quarter of 2024 (October to December inclusive).

The C5 X Plug-in Hybrid wears a price tag of $73,990 before on-road costs, or just over $16,000 more than the standard C5 X.

It’s also $6000 more expensive than the slightly smaller Peugeot 408 GT PHEV, which shares its drivetrain with the Citroen.

The genre-busting large car – a mash-up of sedan, wagon and SUV – rides on Citroen’s ‘Advanced Comfort’ suspension with dual progressive hydraulic cushions.

Comfort mode promises “flying carpet”-like ride quality, while Sport mode firms up the active suspension while also adjusting the steering, throttle response and transmission.

Sport mode also ensures continuous combustion engine operation, with the electric motor supporting for maximum power output.

You can also drive the C5 X Plug-in Hybrid, charge level permitting, on pure electric power, while a hybrid mode alternates between electric and petrol power while using the default suspension mode.

While the new model heralds the belated arrival of Citroen’s first hybrid in Australia, the slow-selling French brand still has yet to introduce any electric vehicles (EVs) despite offering them overseas.

It has previously said the e-C4 is under evaluation.
