The updated BMW 2 Series Coupe will arrive in Australia shortly after its European launch.
The company has confirmed the refreshed two-door will launch before the end of 2024. It goes on sale in Europe in August.
BMW will announce local pricing and specifications in July, but in the meantime it has confirmed it’ll stick with a two-variant lineup in our market.
As with the pre-update model, this will consist of 230i and M240i xDrive variants.
That means we’ll miss out on the petrol 218i and 220i, the latter of which was dropped in Australia for 2024, while the diesel-powered 220d also won’t reach our shores.
The 230i’s turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine will continue to pump out 10kW more than it does in European-market models, with total outputs of 190kW and 400Nm.
Likewise, the M240i xDrive will continue to produce 285kW and 500Nm from its turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six – also 10kW more than in Europe.
Both models mate their engines to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with the 230i sending power to the rear wheels while the M240i xDrive is all-wheel drive.
It’s unclear how much pricing will change in Australia.
The BMW 230i currently starts from $74,300 before on-road costs, while the M240i xDrive begins at $96,000 before on-road costs.
Exterior changes for the new two-door 2 Series are limited to body-coloured side skirts and a high-gloss black diffuser.
The flagship M240i xDrive now has high-gloss black side air intake inserts and mirror caps, as well as a black lip spoiler, rear spoiler and exhaust tips.
There are also new exterior finishes: Fire Red metallic and Skyscraper Grey join the palette, as does the previously M2-exclusive Zandvoort Blue. New 19-inch alloy wheel designs are also available.
There are more tweaks inside the cabin, with the 2 Series coupe now running BMW’s latest Operating System 8.5 software.
There’s an updated 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, the latter of which has grown from 10.25 inches.
A flat-bottom steering wheel has also been fitted, bringing with it a modified spoke design, BMW M contrast stitching (red, light blue and dark blue), and a 12 o’clock centre marker.
Sensatec upholstery is standard on the 230i, with the M240i xDrive featuring Vernasca leather upholstery.
All models have ambient lighting with nine colour themes and ‘waterfall’ lighting integrated into the covers of the central air vents.
Carbon-fibre interior trim joins the option list, as does CraftedClarity glass trim for the iDrive controller, start/stop button and gear selector.
