The BMW 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe lineups have picked up new mid-range variants, with local deliveries expected midway through 2025.

The front-wheel drive 120 and 220 are both powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 150kW of power and 300Nm of torque, mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

This slots them neatly between the 115kW/230Nm turbocharged three-cylinder 118 and 218 and the 233kW/400Nm turbocharged all-wheel drive M135 xDrive and M235 xDrive.

BMW claims 0-100km/h times of 7.2 seconds for the 120 and 7.3 seconds for the 220.

They’re priced much closer to their three-cylinder counterparts than the top-spec M Performance models.

The 120 is priced at $60,600 before on-road costs, $3000 more than the base 118, while the 220 also has a $3000 premium over its three-cylinder counterpart with a price tag of $62,900 before on-roads.

A running change for all 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe models built from March onwards is the standard fitment of BMW Kidney Iconic Glow – essentially an illuminated grille surround.
