For 2024, Volkswagen Australia is removing all diesel variants from its Tiguan line-up and adding more safety tech to Elegance and R-Line variants.
Also not returning for 2024 are the special Tiguan R Grid Edition and Monochrome models.
All models returning for 2024 receive price increases of between $1100 and $2600, which on some variants is partially offset by additional standard equipment.
Earlier this year, Volkswagen revealed its next-generation Tiguan. It’s expected to arrive into Australia in late 2024 as a 2025 model. The brand’s local division will continue to sell the current-generation Tiguan until then.
For 2024, the current Tiguan Elegance and R-Line gain blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, which had been removed due to component shortages in 2022.
A power tailgate becomes standard for Elegance and R-Line models, previously a $600 option. Customers purchasing the Life can choose to option a power tailgate for $600.
Pricing for the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan now opens at $43,990 before on-road costs (+$1100) for the base 110TSI Life.
The flagship performance Tiguan R receives the highest price increase of $2600 and is now priced at $73,709 before on-road costs, however it now features a Harman Kardon sound system as standard. This was previously a $1100 option.
The Volkswagen Tiguan competes in the medium SUV segment and rivals the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander, Hyundai Tucson, and the Nissan X-Trail, among others.
All prices exclude on-road costs.
Powering the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan 110TSI Life is a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque. This is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with drive sent to the front wheels only.
The 132TSI Life is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 132kW and 320Nm.
162TSI variants are powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 162kW and 350Nm.
All 132TSI and 162TSI variants are mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
The flagship Tiguan R has a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine which produces 235kW of power and 400Nm of torque. It’s mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
Volkswagen Australia claims its Tiguan 110TSI Life uses 7.7 litres per 100km on the combined cycle, while the 132TSI Life and 235TSI Tiguan R use a claimed 8.8 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.
The larger 162TSI engine from the Elegance and R-Line uses a claimed 8.5 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.
All models drink 95 RON premium unleaded.
The entry-level 110TSI Life and flagship Tiguan R are fitted with a 58L fuel tank, whereas the rest use a 60L fuel tank.
The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan 110TSI Life measures 4509mm long, 1839mm wide and 1675mm tall, with a 2681mm wheelbase. Life, Elegance and R-Line models are slightly taller at 1686mm.
The high-performance Tiguan R measures in at 4520mm long, 1859mm wide and 1668mm tall, with a 2681mm wheelbase.
Boot space is 520L with the second row in its rearmost position and 615L with the rear seats slid forward, while folding them flat results in 1655L of space.
The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
Servicing is required every 12 months or 15,000km. Volkswagen offers three- and five-year prepaid service plans.
Three-year plans cost $1500 on the 110TSI and $1700 on all other Tiguans, while five-year plans cost $2850 on the 110TSI and $3200 on all other models.
The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan wears a five-star ANCAP safety rating based on testing carried out in 2016. This rating has since expired, and the Tiguan is now unrated.
