Australian specifications and features for the 2024 Volkswagen ID.5 electric SUV have been locked in, ahead of the model’s mid-year local debut.
As with its more traditionally styled ID.4 sibling, the coupe-esque Volkswagen ID.5 will be sold in two variants: the entry-level rear-wheel drive Pro and flagship all-wheel drive GTX.
While Volkswagen is yet to confirm pricing, it has said both the ID.4 and ID.5 are set to be priced between $60,000 to $90,000.
According to Volkswagen, it’s targeting a price gap of approximately $12,000 between the flagship ID.4 GTX and the performance Tiguan R turbocharged petrol SUV.
The Tiguan R’s is priced from $75,890 before on-road costs in Australia, meaning the ID.4 GTX could be priced as high as $88,000 before on-road costs.
Based on overseas pricing, the ID.5 GTX could be between $2000 and $3000 more than its traditionally-styled SUV sibling, just scraping in under $90,000 before on-road costs.
Powering the Volkswagen ID.5 is a 82kWh gross battery pack – or 77kWh usable capacity – with DC charging capacity ranging of 135kW for the Pro and 175kW for the GTX.
The ID.5 Pro’s electric motor produces 210kW and 545Nm, sending power to the rear wheels with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 6.7 seconds.
Flagship ID.4 GTXs gain a front electric motor, increasing combined outputs to 250kW and 679Nm, while lowering its claimed 0-100km/h sprint to 5.4 seconds.
Claimed driving range for the ID.5 Pro on the European WLTP lab testing cycle is 550km, while the GTX is slightly lower at 528km.
Standard equipment in the Volkswagen ID.5 Pro includes:

- Dynamic Chassis Control
- Matrix LED headlights (with Dynamic Light Assist, which can disable segments of the main beam when oncoming traffic is detected)
- ‘3D effect’ tail lights
- Art Velour upholstery
- Power-adjustable and heated front seats with memory
- 12.9-inch infotainment screen
- Wireless and wired Apple CarPlay
- Three-zone climate control
- Panoramic glass roof with sunblind
- Ambient interior lighting (30 colours available)
- Hands-free power tailgate
- Mode 2 and Mode 3 charging cables
- Autonomous emergency braking
- Adaptive cruise control with stop and go
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Lane-departure alert and prevention
- Surround-view camera
- Proactive occupant protection (which closes the sunroof and windows, and pre-tensions seatbelts if a crash is imminent)
The ID.5 GTX adds:
- 20-inch ‘Ystad’ alloy wheels
- Sports seats with integrated headrests
- Harmon Kardon sound system
A heat pump will be available as an optional extra across both variants, while metallic and premium paint is also expected to be offered as a cost option.
The 2024 Volkswagen ID.5 is due in Australian showrooms between June and July, with local pricing to be announced ahead of its local debut.
