2024 Toyota Yaris Cross price and specs

The hybrid-only Toyota Yaris Cross has received a tech upgrade and some minor styling tweaks, as well as price increases.

The updated model is in dealerships now, and prices are up by between $880 and $950 across the range.

The Yaris Cross ditches its 7.0-inch touchscreen for a larger 8.0-inch unit running Toyota’s latest-generation infotainment system, featuring cloud-based satellite navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

USB-A outlets are gone, with two USB-C outlets up front.

Toyota has also made a full 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster standard across the range, which features nine patterns and three themes.

The autonomous emergency braking system now recognises motorcycles and oncoming vehicles, in addition to the cyclist, pedestrian and vehicle detection it had previously.

There’s also intersection collision avoidance and emergency steering assist, though these only operate in daylight.

Toyota has improved the adaptive cruise control and lane trace assist (lane centring) by integrating new cameras and sensors that operate over a wider area.

GXL and above get a new parking support brake, which applies the brakes if it detects you’re about to hit an obstacle while parking.

These up-spec variants also get safe exit assist, which will warn occupants if they’re about to exit the car into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Styling changes are minor. All models get a new rear side spoiler, while the GX, GXL and Urban get a new upper grille and seat trim pattern.

The GXL gains rear privacy glass, while the Urban gets a new style of 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the base GX gets illuminated vanity mirrors, two rear grab handles, and a soft armrest for the centre console.

The Yaris Cross was launched in 2020 as the brand’s entry-level crossover, slotting in underneath the C-HR.

Drivetrains

All 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross models feature a 1.5-litre three-cylinder hybrid powertrain with 67kW of power and 120Nm of torque, mated with a 59kW/141Nm motor generator small lithium-ion battery and a continuously variable transmission.

Toyota quotes a total system output of 85kW for all Yaris Cross models.

All-wheel drive models feature an additional 3.9kW/52Nm rear motor generator. The all-wheel drive system can send up to 60 per cent of drive to the rear.

Toyota claims a 0-100km/h time of 11.2 seconds with front-wheel drive models and 11.8 seconds with all-wheel drive models.

All models feature MacPherson strut front suspension, but all-wheel drive models swap from torsion-beam rear suspension to a multi-link setup, while gaining a selectable Trail Mode.

All models have 283mm ventilated front disc brakes with a floating single-cylinder caliper, but front-wheel drive models have 265mm solid rear discs and all-wheel drive models have 281mm solid rear discs.

Efficiency

The 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross uses 3.8L/100km on the combined cycle in all front-wheel drive models bar the GR Sport, which uses 4.1L/100km.

All-wheel drive models use 4.0L/100km.

It has a 36L fuel tank and runs on 91 RON regular unleaded fuel.

CO2 emissions are 86g/km in front-wheel drive GX, GXL and Urban models, 90g/km in their all-wheel drive counterparts, and 93g/km in the GR Sport.

Dimensions

The 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross measures 4180mm long, 1765mm wide and 1590mm tall on a 2560mm wheelbase. It has 170mm of ground clearance.

The GR Sport is slightly longer at 4185mm and lower at 1580mm, with 160mm of ground clearance

Kerb weight is 1235kg in front-wheel drive models and 1305kg in all-wheel drive models.

Towing capacity is 400kg.

Servicing and Warranty

The Toyota Yaris Cross is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

Toyota offers capped-price servicing for the first five years or 75,000km, whichever comes first. Servicing is required every 12 months or 15,000km, with each visit costing $250.

Safety

The Toyota Yaris Cross has a five-star safety rating from ANCAP, based on testing conducted in 2021.

It received an adult occupant protection rating of 86 per cent, a child occupant protection rating of 86 per cent, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 78 per cent, and a safety assist rating of 82 per cent.
