The 2024 Toyota LandCruiser Prado’s Australian specifications have been locked in, months before the new version of the popular SUV is due in local showrooms.
Toyota’s new ‘250 Series’ LandCruiser Prado was revealed last year – as a replacement for the now 15-year-old 150 Series – breaking cover with boxy styling, a mild-hybrid turbo-diesel engine and a major cabin overhaul.
It’s due in Australian showrooms in mid-2024, with pricing and further specification details to be announced closer to launch.
There will be five variants from launch, with the GX, GXL, VX and Kakadu nameplates continuing, while the Altitude grade returns for the first time since 2017, slotting between the two existing highest-spec models.
All Australian-delivered Toyota LandCruiser Prados will continue to be powered by a 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, now with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance.
However, there are no changes to the Prado’s outputs, which remain at 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque.
Despite being twinned with the Lexus GX, Australian buyers will miss out on the twin-turbocharged 3.4-litre petrol V6 engine under the bonnet of the Prado’s luxury sibling, which boasts up to 260kW and 650Nm.
The four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine is exclusively mated to a new eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission (up two ratios from the outgoing model), which incorporates low-range gearing and sends power to all four corners through a full-time all-wheel drive system.
All versions of the new Toyota Prado have a 3500kg braked towing capacity, up 500kg on its predecessor.
