Australian pricing and specifications for the Polestar 4 electric SUV have been locked in, with order books now open ahead of first arrivals due in August 2024.
Following the Polestar 2 going on sale locally in early 2022 – and the confusingly larger Polestar 3’s planned June 2024 Australian launch – the Polestar 4 will become the brand’s third electric model to be sold in Australia.
Priced from $81,500 plus on-road costs, the Polestar 4 is available in single-motor and more expensive dual-motor guises, the latter of which starts from $93,050 plus on-road costs.
These prices put it within striking distance of the Tesla Model Y, which became the best-selling vehicle in the world last year and is priced from $65,400 plus on-road costs in Australia – though the Model Y’s Long Range and Performance grades are seen as closer competitors to the Polestar 4, at $78,400 and $92,020 respectively.
As with the Polestar 2, the Polestar 4 is due to be built in China at a production facility alongside models from the brand’s parent company, Geely.
The Polestar 4’s standout feature is its rear window, or rather lack thereof.
Rear visibility comes courtesy of a roof-mounted camera which feeds back images to a screen inside the cabin, which Polestar claims provides a wider field of view than a traditional rear-view mirror.
The Polestar 4 is on sale now, with first Australian deliveries slated to start from August 2024.
Pricing
- 2024 Polestar 4 Single Motor: $81,500
- 2024 Polestar 4 Dual Motor: $93,050
All prices exclude on-road costs.
Drivetrains
The Polestar 4 is offered with a choice of two powertrains – a single, rear-mounted electric motor, or dual front- and rear-mounted electric motors.
Polestar quotes outputs of 200kW and 343Nm for the Single Motor variant, while the Dual Motor boasts double the figures of its sibling with up to 400kW and 686Nm.
Efficiency
Both Polestar 4 variants are powered by a 94kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, with a ‘targeted’ WLTP range of 610km for the Single Motor, and 580km for the Dual Motor.
The Polestar 4 can charge at up to 11kW AC as standard – or 22kW with the $8000 ‘Plus Pack’ optioned – while it’s capable of DC charging at up to 200kW, allowing it to be topped up from 10 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes.
Dimensions
The Polestar 4 measures 4840mm long, 2139mm wide (with mirrors extended), and 1534mm tall with a 2999mm wheelbase.
The Polestar 4 Single Motor weighs 2230kg, while the Dual Motor tips the scales at 2355kg.
Polestar says the 4 has 15 litres of storage capacity in its front boot, 526 litres in the boot (which includes 31 litres under the floor) and 1536 litres with the rear seats folded.
Braked towing capacity is 1500kg for the Single Motor and 2000kg for the Dual Motor, both of which have a tow tongue weight limit of 100kg.
Servicing and Warranty
The Polestar 4 is sold in Australia with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
Its 94kWh battery is covered by an eight-year or 160,000km warranty, whichever comes first – while Polestar provides a guarantee that the battery will retain a minimum of 70 per cent capacity throughout the warranty period.
There is also a 12-year warranty against corrosion, while three years complimentary Polestar Connect and five years of roadside assist are included in the purchase price.
