MG’s small sedan entered 2024 unchanged, though it recently received a $1000 price hike.
The MG 5 range now opens at $25,990 drive-away, though it’s still easily the cheapest car in its class. It even undercuts drive-away pricing for the sole remaining sedan in the segment below, the Mazda 2.
It’s also just $1000 more than the new-generation MG 3 hatchback.
An update is coming either towards the end of this year or next year, which will bring various safety features following a zero-star rating from safety authority ANCAP in 2023.
MG sold 2252 examples of its small sedan in the first half of 2024, which saw it outsell the Subaru Impreza (1078). It also came close to reaching the tally of the smaller Mazda 2 (2446 sales).
The MG 5 represents the brand’s return to the small car segment in Australia, along with the electric MG 4 that also touched down locally in 2023.
