The new-generation MG 3 is still a much more expensive proposition than its predecessor, but the Chinese carmaker has tried to narrow the gap.
It has announced a return to drive-away pricing for the MG 3, but only for petrol-powered models.
The Excite, previously priced at $23,990 before on-road costs, is now priced at $24,990 drive-away as part of this so-called “strategic pricing adjustment”.
The Essence has gone from $25,990 before on-roads to $26,990 drive-away.
The new nationwide drive-away pricing means a savings of $706 to $1332 for MG 3 Excite buyers, and $726 to $1416 for Essence customers.
Hybrid models remain priced at $27,990 and $28,990 before on-road costs for the Excite and Essence, respectively.
The reduction comes after deliveries have already commenced, but MG says it will compensate buyers that have already picked up their MG 3s.
“Customers like choice and we want them to be empowered to have the freedom to drive an
affordable hatch,” said Brad Chruszcz, MG Motor Australia’s national sales manager.
“We’re excited to introduce a compelling drive away campaign providing an opportunity for customers to get behind the wheel of the next generation all new MG3 from just $24,990 drive away for Excite and $26,990 for Essence just in the nick of time before end of financial year.
“A lot of our customers want to take advantage of the asset write-offs with the government, we have plenty of stock ready to be delivered.
“We are dedicated to providing the best value possible and have gone one step further by also including Brighton Blue Metallic paint on the MG3 petrol variants for a limited time. This is our most popular colour and we want people to enjoy it for no additional cost!
“Our customers come first and with that in mind if a person has already taken delivery, they will be eligible for a rebate taking into consideration the new campaign.”
MG says it still has supply of the outgoing generation of MG 3, which is priced from $18,990 drive-away, with stocks set to last until the end of this year.
