Mercedes-Benz has teased its updated GLE range on social media ahead of a reveal this week.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE wagon and GLE Coupe will be officially unveiled on Tuesday, January 31. The company says it will be revealed at 6pm, though doesn’t specify the timezone.
The most visible changes in this shadowy teaser are the tweaked headlight and tail light graphics, though other aesthetic changes could include revised bumpers and new wheel designs.
Previous spy photos have revealed no other exterior changes of note for the mid-life update.
These photos have also revealed the GLE will stick with its existing screen layout, so don’t expect to see a portrait-oriented touchscreen as in the C-Class and S-Class, or the available MBUX Hyperscreen seen on electric models like the EQS. It could, however, receive the latest version of the MBUX operating system.
The GLE is already offered with a plug-in hybrid and a range of 48V mild-hybrid powertrains, but a longer electric range for PHEV models and more power from the MHEV options are potentially on the table.
While the company offered a PHEV in the last generation of GLE in Australia, the most electrification the current GLE has offered is a 48V mild-hybrid system.
GLE 53 AMG 
With Mercedes-Benz Australia confirming it won’t bring PHEVs in the new C-Class and GLC ranges due to slow sales, we don’t expect a GLE PHEV to return. Buyers seeking greater electrification will likely be directed to the electric EQE SUV instead.
Mercedes-Benz Australia currently offers the GLE with a choice of four- and six-cylinder turbo-diesel engines (GLE 300d and GLE 400d), as well as turbocharged inline-six petrol engines (GLE 450 and GLE 53 AMG) and a twin-turbocharged petrol V8 (GLE 63 S).
The current GLE was revealed in 2018 and launched in 2019 and is therefore due for a mid-life update, which also coincides with an update for its BMW X5 arch-rival.
GLE 
In 2022, Mercedes-Benz sold 3093 examples of the GLE wagon and 781 of the GLE Coupe. That put the GLE neck-and-neck with the X5 (3111 sales) and the GLE Coupe almost lineball with the X6 coupe SUV (690 sales).
Lump all GLE sales together and it was the segment’s best-seller, albeit just 73 sales ahead of the combined X5/X6 tally.
Updates for the related, BMW X7-rivalling GLS are expected to follow.
Current GLE
