Lexus has fully detailed the pricing and specification of its smallest model ever – the LBX crossover.

Deliveries of the Lexus LBX commenced in Australia on March 18, with Lexus Australia claiming around 1500 examples are set to arrive in the first 12 months.

The Lexus LBX is based on the same GA-B platform as the Toyota Yaris Cross and is powered exclusively by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid powertrain producing 100kW of power.

Two trim levels are being offered in Australia at launch – Luxury and Sports Luxury. The former is exclusively offered in two-wheel drive (2WD) form, whereas the latter can be had in either 2WD or all-wheel drive (AWD) forms.

Besides having an additional rear induction asynchronous motor generator producing 4.7kW and 52Nm, the LBX Sports Luxury AWD receives a more sophisticated trailing arm-type two-link double wishbone rear suspension setup.

LBX 2WD variants on the other hand receive a torsion beam rear suspension setup.

In terms of rivals, the Lexus LBX is a unique because it’s considerably more expensive than the majority of other light SUV, including the likes of the Renault Captur, Toyota Yaris Cross and Volkswagen T-Cross.

It’s also notably smaller than small premium SUVs like the Audi Q2, BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Volvo XC40.

    Pricing

Three variants are being offered at launch.

    • 2024 Lexus LBX Luxury 2WD: $47,550
    • 2024 Lexus LBX Sports Luxury 2WD: $52,990
    • 2024 Lexus LBX Sports Luxury AWD: $56,990

    Powertrains

Front-wheel drive Lexus LBX variants are powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 67kW and 120Nm, as well as a single electric motor generator producing 69kW and 185Nm which is fed by a nickel-metal hydride battery.

This is all mated to an electronic continuously variable transmission (e-CVT). Total system output is 100kW of power.

The LBX Sports Luxury AWD adds a rear asynchronous electric motor generator that produces 4.7kW and 52Nm. Total system output is still 100kW.

Lexus claims the LBX 2WD variants can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 9.2 seconds, whereas the Sports Luxury AWD does the 0-100km/h sprint in 9.6 seconds. Top speed for both is 170km/h.
