2024 Jeep Compass price and specs: Hybrid-only lineup brings increases

The Jeep Compass is pricier than before but more efficient, with petrol and diesel engines dropped for mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.

Petrol- and diesel-powered Jeep Compass crossovers are dead in Australia, with the small SUV range shifting to an exclusively mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid lineup.

Jeep Australia has finally introduced the electrified Compasses offered for some time in Europe, with e-Hybrid and 4xe plug-in hybrid models arriving in Australian showrooms in June.

This also means Australian-market Compasses are now sourced from Italy, instead of India.

The range opens at $45,990 before on-road costs, a $4590 increase over last year’s petrol-powered Night Eagle base model.

The more off-road-ready Trailhawk is dead, as is the base model Night Eagle and up-spec S-Limited.

Instead, there are just two trim levels – Limited and Summit – both available on the e-Hybrid and 4xe.

Front-wheel drive e-Hybrid models use a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine mated with a 48V mild-hybrid system and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with system outputs totalling 96kW of power and 240Nm of torque.

Those outputs are down 33kW but up 11Nm on last year’s naturally aspirated 2.4-litre four-cylinder, while fuel economy improves from 7.9L/100km to 5.1L/100km.

Jeep says e-Hybrid models can travel in electric-only mode at under 15km/h, such as while creeping through heavy traffic or a carpark, with the 48V battery also assisting with performance at high speeds.

If you want all-wheel drive, you now need to step up to the 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain.

    This mates a 132kW/270Nm turbocharged 1.3-litre engine with a six-speed automatic transmission, a rear-mounted electric motor with 44kW and 250Nm, and an 11.4kWh battery.

Total system output is 176kW, and Jeep claims 47.3km of electric range and combined cycle fuel economy of 2.1L/100km.
