The price of entry to the Hyundai Santa Fe range has increased by almost $10,000 with the imminent arrival of the new-generation, hybrid-only SUV in local showrooms.
Overseas models shown throughout
Hyundai no longer offers the Santa Fe with pure petrol or turbo-diesel power in Australia, with the latter powertrain being axed globally in this boxier model.
This has resulted in the Santa Fe lineup being slashed from 11 variants to just five, all of which are powered by a petrol-hybrid powertrain.
Priced from $55,500 before on-road costs in base front-wheel drive guise, the Santa Fe is $9450 more expensive than the cheapest version of the outgoing generation, with its drive-away price exceeding $60,000 across Australia.
The entry-level all-wheel drive model is also up by $8950, now starting from $58,500 before on-road costs.
Comparing the new Santa Fe Elite with its hybrid predecessor, however, prices are up by only $2000 (to $65,000 before on-road costs), while prices of the new Calligraphy grades are $5450 to $5950 higher than those of the Hybrid Highlanders they replace.
To compensate for the price increase, the Santa Fe is more powerful than the model it replaces, and is stacked with more equipment.
This includes larger interior display screens, wireless smartphone mirroring, and enhanced comfort features.
The SUV has also grown on the outside and inside, offering more interior space than before.

Drivetrain
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 132kW of power and 265Nm of torque on its own.
It’s mated to a 47.7kW electric motor, raising its total system output to 173kW.
Drive is delivered to either the front or all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
There’s no turbo-diesel engine on offer in this generation Santa Fe globally, while a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine available overseas (with 207kW and 422Nm, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission) is yet to be locked in for Australia.
Efficiency
Hyundai claims the Santa Fe Hybrid consumes 5.6L/100km on the combined ADR cycle, though it does not specify if this applies to both front- and all-wheel drive grades.

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe will be covered by the brand’s standard five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty in Australia.
Hyundai hasn’t yet detailed service intervals and pricing for the Santa Fe.

Colours
The base Creamy White is the only colour available at no extra cost, with all other finishes incurring a $695 premium while the two matte offerings will set buyers back an additional $1000.
