2024 GWM Cannon Alpha price and specs: Hybrid, diesel ute detailed

GWM has priced its new Cannon Alpha range, which includes an Australia-first hybrid ute.

The GWM Cannon Alpha range opens at $51,990 drive-away for the Lux diesel, with the sole hybrid option priced at $64,990 drive-away.

CarExpert understands Cannon Alpha utes will reach GWM dealerships in June.

The Cannon Alpha slots in above the existing Cannon Ute, but offers larger exterior dimensions, greater towing capacity, a more luxurious interior, and a more powerful turbo-diesel engine.

It also has a hybrid option, which no rival can match in Australia. BYD and Ford have confirmed plug-in hybrid utes for our market, however, which are expected later this year and early next year, respectively.

Drivetrains

All GWM Cannon Alpha models feature a torque-on-demand four-wheel drive system with low-range gearing.

Efficiency

The GWM Cannon Alpha uses 8.9L/100km on the combined cycle with a diesel engine and 9.8L/100km with the hybrid powertrain.

Dimensions

The GWM Cannon Alpha measures 35mm longer, 57mm wider and 38mm taller than a GWM Cannon Ute, on a 120mm longer wheelbase.

GWM says that allows it to slot between standard dual-cab utes and full-sized American pickups.

Payload varies based on the model.

Servicing and Warranty

GWM backs its vehicles with a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

Service pricing is not yet available.

The GWM Cannon Alpha has yet to be tested by ANCAP.
