Cupra has upped pricing on the Ateca by $2240 in Australia, although it’s added DAB+ to the spec sheet to help offset it.
The offers a drive-away price nationwide for the Ateca of $68,990 in high-performance VZx guise.
The Ateca is the oldest member of the Cupra family, having started life as a hotted-up version of the Seat Ateca that entered production in 2016.
It was launched in Australia with a run of 100 Launch Edition models, featuring the optional Akrapovic exhaust.
Cupra Australia has confirmed the Ateca will not be offered in Australia long-term, as it looks to shift focus to three new electrified models.
The electrified Cupra Terramar is expected to replace the Ateca as early as next year, with a scheduled launch set for 2024.
The Terramar will offer a choice of petrol or plug-in hybrid powertrains and will measure 4.5m long, compared to 4.38m for the Ateca and 4.45m for the Formentor.
That will make it similar in size to the current standard-length Volkswagen Tiguan, which measures just over 4.5m long.
Cupra has introduced 110kW 1.5 TSI and 140kW 2.0 TSI variants of the Ateca from the third quarter of 2023 overseas, the latter with all-wheel drive, however these models will not be available in Australia.
Speaking with CarExpert, a spokesperson for Cupra said: “The high-performance VZx (221kW) powertrain is the most relevant for Ateca in the Australian market and the one we will continue with locally”.
Orders for the MY24 Cupra line-up will “be available shortly” ahead of deliveries commencing late in the third quarter of 2023. However, the company has confirmed “significant MY23 stock” is arriving into Cupra’s local dealer network at pre-adjusted pricing.
The 2024 Cupra Ateca is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 221kW of power and 400Nm of torque.
It’s mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
Cupra claims a 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds.
The 2024 Cupra Ateca uses 7.8L/100km on the combined cycle.
It has a 55L fuel tank and requires 98 RON premium unleaded fuel.
The 2024 Cupra Ateca measures 4386mm long, 1841mm wide and 1599mm tall on a 2630mm wheelbase.
It has 485L of boot space. The second row of seats can be folded with a 60:40 split. The middle seat including a ski-shaft.
Braked towing capacity is 2100kg and unbraked towing capacity is 750kg.
The Ateca has a tare mass of 1652kg.
The Cupra Ateca is covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
Maintenance is required every 12 months or 15,000 kilometres.
Cupra in March removed its three years of free servicing for customers. Customers can purchase a service pack for $990 for three years or $1990 for five years of servicing.
Cupra offers its customers the option of a Service Pack prior to their first scheduled service.
The Cupra Ateca doesn’t yet have a rating from ANCAP, though the related Seat Ateca has a five-star Euro NCAP rating from 2016.
In European testing, it received an adult occupant protection rating of 93 per cent, a child occupant protection rating of 84 per cent, a pedestrian protection rating of 71 per cent, and a safety assist rating of 60 per cent.
