The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max – a seven-seat SUV from China – is due in Australia in April 2024, and the company has detailed the local lineup.
The Tiggo 8 Pro Max is larger than the five-seat Omoda 5 small SUV and Tiggo 7 Pro mid-sized SUV, taking on popular seven-seat models such as the Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan X-Trail from Japan.
It will launch in Australia with three variants: the front-wheel drive Urban and Elite, plus the flagship all-wheel drive Ultimate.
All three variants are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 180kW of power and 375Nm of torque and mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
According to homologation documents approved by the Australian government, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro measures 4720mm long, 1860mm wide, and 1705mm tall with a 2710mm wheelbase.
For context, the Mitsubishi Outlander – which is the best-selling seven-seat SUV in Australia – is 10mm shorter, 2mm wider, 35mm taller and has a 4mm shorter wheelbase than the new Chery.
All Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max variants will be equipped with a front centre airbag – which reduces the risk of front seat occupants suffering a head clash in a side impact, and has become a crucial feature towards achieving a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
Chery Australia is yet to confirm a full safety equipment list for the Tiggo 8 Pro Max, though in other right-hand drive export countries such as South Africa it includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and traffic sign recognition.
The Tiggo 8 Pro Max’s digital instrument display and infotainment screens measure 12.3- and 10.25 inches respectively in other markets – incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – while an eight-speaker Sony sound system, dual-zone climate control and leather upholstery are also standard overseas.
Government documents have shown the front-wheel-drive Tiggo 8 Pro Max has been approved for sale with 18-inch wheels, while the all-wheel drive steps up to 19-inch wheels.
All Chery vehicles sold in Australia are covered by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, with seven years of capped-price servicing and roadside assistance also included.
Australian pricing for the Chery Tiggo Pro Max is yet to be confirmed, however using the smaller five-seat Tiggo 7 Pro as a guide it’s likely to start from more than $40,000 drive-away.
The cheapest seven-seat versions of the Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander are priced from $40,290 and $41,240 respectively, both before on-road costs.
The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max is due in Australian showrooms in April 2024.
