2024 BMW M4 price and specs: Smaller range, higher prices

The 2024 BMW M4 will come to Australia between April and June wearing a higher price than its predecessor, owing to new equipment and a power increase for the two-door performance car.

As reported earlier today, the BMW M4 has undergone a minor facelift, with new lights at the front and rear, an upgraded infotainment system, and a power increase for the flagship Competition xDrive variants.

Priced from $168,700 before on-road costs in manual, rear-wheel-drive guise, the base M4 is now $2200 dearer, while the range has been trimmed to three variants with the axing of the rear-wheel-drive M4 Competition.

“The high volume of new BMW models introduced to the local market prompts us to constantly assess our product portfolio in line with customer demand and our commitment to offering products that suit individual needs,” a BMW Australia spokesperson told CarExpert.

“This has led us to restructure certain model line-ups for 2024.”    

Its all-wheel-drive Competition xDrive siblings live on as a coupe ($186,500 plus on-road costs, up $3400) and a convertible ($197,900, up $3300).

The 2024 BMW M4 is due in showrooms during the fourth quarter of this year (April to June inclusive).

Pricing

• 2024 BMW M4 coupe: $168,700 (+$2200)
• 2024 BMW M4 Competition xDrive coupe: $186,500 (+$3400)
• 2024 BMW M4 Competition xDrive convertible: $197,900 (+$3300)

Drivetrains

All three BMW M4s are powered by twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six cylinder engines, though with varying outputs.

The base M4 coupe produces 353kW of power and 550Nm of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

Both the M4 Competition xDrive coupe and convertible have received a 15kW power increase, now developing 390kW and 650Nm, driving all four wheels through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

Efficiency

BMW quotes varying fuel economy figures for the M4, with the manual-equipped coupe returning 10.0-10.1L/100km on the European WLTP test cycle, the M4 Competition xDrive coupe returning 9.7-9.9L/100km and the convertible returning 10.2-10.3L/100km.

Dimensions

While the updated BMW M4’s dimensions and weights are yet to be announced, the pre-facelift model measured 4794mm long, 1887mm wide, and 1393mm tall on a 2857mm wheelbase.

Weight varied from 1663kg for the M4 manual coupe, 1738kg for the M4 Competition coupe and 1883kg for the M4 Competition convertible.

Servicing and Warranty

Since November 2022, all new BMWs sold in Australia have included a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty.

BMW has not yet released service intervals and costs for the M4.

Safety

The BMW M4 doesn’t have an ANCAP safety rating.
