Volkswagen Australia has expanded its heavily in-demand Multivan people mover range with a special edition variant, to be rolled out during quarters three and four of 2022.
The vehicle in question is the rather unimaginatively named Volkswagen Multivan Edition, with 250 units locked in for the local market.
It’s based on the entry Multivan Comfortline Premium SWB grade, but adds extras such as an adjustable table for rear passengers, an integrated booster seat within a rear captain’s chair, a wood-effect rear floor, an 8.0-inch navigation system, and digital instruments.

Further addition wireless app-connect (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), voice control, two USB-C ports, heated left and right front swivel seats, LED interior lighting, privacy glass and an ‘Edition’ side step light.
On the outside the Multivan Edition is available with a black roof and B-pillar, gloss black side mirrors, ‘Edition’ decals on the sliding doors and tailgate, a black load protection edge for the powered tailgate, and 17-inch black/diamond alloy wheels including a steel full-size spare.
All up VW is charging $7500 more for the Multivan Edition than the version on which it’s based, giving it a price of $76,990 before on-road costs.
Regarding the all-important colour choices, options are Candy White, Pure Grey, Cherry Red, Ravenna Blue Metallic, Mojave Beige Metallic, Reflex Silver Metallic, or Indium Grey Metallic.
Power comes from a familiar 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 110kW of power and 340Nm of torque mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic and front-wheel drive. The optional 140kW and 450Nm AWD drivetrain is not available in Edition guise.
Volkswagen is regularly expanding its people mover range, tapping into the cred it has in this space given its Kombi history. Other examples include the Caddy California and California 6.1 Beach, two campervans.

Intriguingly, Volkswagen’s Commercial arm for the Australian market said today that there is “a further van expansion set to come” down the track too.
This in all probability refers to the Volkswagen ID. Buzz and ID. Cargo retro-inspired EV people mover and van, which as we reported last week is a lock for Australia.
One Multivan we aren’t as clear on – in terms of an Australian launch – is the European Multivan T7, an MQB-based offering that contrasts the van-like T6.1 Multivan you see here.
