MG has released pricing for the entire MG 4 line-up, with the electric hatchback range opening at just under $39,000 before on-roads.

UPDATE 19/06/2023: MG has added a Excite variant to its line-up which has a smaller 51kWh battery. It’s mated to a single electric motor which produces up to 125kW of power and offers a claimed 350km of range on the WLTP cycle. See article for details.

The company had previously confirmed pricing only for the Essence spec with its 64kWh battery as pre-sales opened. This variant is priced at $47,990 before on-roads and offers 435km of range on the WLTP cycle.

It has now confirmed pricing for the base Excite (51), which uses a smaller 51kWh battery and costs $38,990 before on-roads.

The range is topped with an Essence variant using a 77kWh battery with 530km of range. This is priced at $55,990 before on-road costs.

A more powerful X-Power dual-motor all-wheel drive variant is “under strong consideration” to join the line-up closer to the MG 4’s launch in the second half of 2023.

Unlike the existing ZS EV, which uses a combustion-vehicle platform, the MG 4 sits on the brand’s new modular Scalable Platform which features rear-wheel drive and 50:50 weight distribution.

With a base price just under $39,000 before on-roads, the MG 4 is one of Australia’s cheapest electric vehicles.

The GWM Ora Standard Range hatch starts from $43,990 before on-road costs or between $44,490 and $47,891 drive-away, depending on the state.

MG’s own ZS EV Excite, which is soon to be discontinued, starts at $43,990 before on-roads or between $46,195 and $49,130 drive-away, again depending on the state.

    Pricing

    • 2023 MG 4 Excite (51kWh): $38,990

    All prices exclude on-road costs.

    Drivetrains

The MG 4 Excite 51 produces 125kW of power from a rear-mounted electric motor, teamed with a 51kWh battery, offering a claimed 0-100km/h time of 7.7 seconds.

The 2023 MG 4 produces 150kW of power with the 64kWh battery, with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 7.9s.

With the larger 77kWh battery, power is bumped up to 180kW while the claimed 0-100km/h time is under 7.0 seconds.

    All models have a single-motor rear-wheel drive set-up, though a dual-motor all-wheel drive variant is under consideration.
