Ford has added a more generously-specified version of its rear-wheel drive Everest SUV to the range for 2023.
The new Sport 4×2 Bi-Turbo features the same exterior treatment and interior trims as the more expensive Sport V6, but features the less powerful 2.0-litre engine and isn’t offered with four-wheel drive.
Pricing kicks off at $62,790 before on-roads, $6800 less than the V6 model based on 2023 prices. Despite the smaller engine, the Sport 4×2 features the same 3.5 tonne braked towing capacity as the 4WD model.
Ford has struggled for supply of the V6-powered Everest and Ranger since launch, but wait times have been shorter for the 2.0-litre. Current wait times for the Everest Sport V6 and Platinum V6 extend until May 2023.
“Everest Sport has proven to be a very popular model since we revealed the Next-Generation Everest range earlier this year,” said Andrew Birkic, Ford Australia president and CEO.
“With the introduction of Everest Sport RWD we are offering our customers more choice, with a very stylish vehicle that can tow the boat and fit the family in safety and comfort.”
The Sport Bi-Turbo will likely allow buyers who want an Everest with most of the luxury trimmings, but who don’t need four-wheel drive, to get their hands on a car more quickly when it arrives in February 2023.
Standard equipment on the Sport atop the existing Bi-Turbo flagship, the Trend, includes:
Beyond the Sport, the Everest range has been treated to a number of tweaks.
The range-topping Platinum now features steel underbody protection as standard, along with a black painted roof.
The Touring Pack offered on 4WD versions of the Trend and Sport has been made $350 more expensive ($2300), but now includes black roof rails, a 360-degree camera, zone lighting, a tow bar, and an integrated trailer brake controller.
