It looks like the BMW X5 will get more than just a massaged look with its mid-life refresh, according to a new report.
BMW Blog quotes “inside information” that the xDrive40i, xDrive45e, and M50i will be given a power boost when the 2023 X5 launches.
According to the report, the inline six-cylinder xDrive40i petrol will be boosted from 250kW to 275kW, and the plug-in hybrid xDrive45e will be boosted from 290kW to almost 360kW of power thanks to the powertrain from the next-gen 7 Series.

A longer electric-only range is also likely, although exactly how far it’ll be extended isn’t clear.
Finally, the report claims the flagship M Sport version of the X5, currently badged M50i, will swap its current V8 engine for a version of the hybrid S68 twin-turbo V8 we’re expecting to feature in the XM SUV.
It won’t necessarily get a power boost, however. The current engine outputs 390kW and 750Nm.
Given the current model only launched in 2019, and we haven’t seen many camouflaged mules running around, it’s unlikely the 2023 X5 facelift will debut until next year.
Along with the massaged engines, the X5 is likely to gain the curved-screen infotainment system gradually rolling out across the BMW range inside.
It’s already been rolled out in the i4 and iX, with a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display.
Powered by the latest iDrive 8 operating system, this new infotainment system supports over-the-air updates, improved personalisation, voice recognition features, and a minimalist interface with large icons.
