The updated Volkswagen Polo has been revealed in Europe, ahead of Australian sales kicking off in 2022.
Volkswagen Australia says the 2022 Polo range will go on sale locally from “early Q2 2022”, with the updated GTI lobbing Down Under from May 2022.
Up front there are new Golf-influenced headlight units linked by a light strip at the bottom of the grille.
In Europe LED headlights are standard throughout the range, and for the first time top-spec Polos are available with matrix LED headlamps.
Other external changes include new bumpers at both ends, fresh alloy wheel options, and LED tail-lights that now stretch into the tailgate.
Inside the cabin, base models pair an 8.0-inch digital instrumentation screen with a 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, while more luxurious models have a 10.25-inch display ahead of the driver and a 9.2-inch touchscreen.
The new steering wheel features the company’s updated logo. While the tiller still features physical buttons on two spokes, the updated climate control system employs capacitive buttons.
Newly-available safety technology in Europe includes the company’s Travel Assist system, which allows for Level 2 partially-automated driving on highways at speeds up to 210km/h.
As is the case in Australia, European Polos soldier on with carryover drivetrains.
This means local models will continue to feature a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo with either 70kW or 85kW, while the GTI will still have a 147kW 2.0-litre turbo.
