Toyota's new flagship has been priced for Australia. It's not going to be cheap, but it will be loaded with equipment. We've updated this story with a full local photo gallery.
The redesigned Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series will offer two new flagship models atop a pricier but more comprehensively-equipped range.
The carryover GX, GXL, VX and Sahara trim levels will slot below the new off-road-focused GR Sport and the more luxurious Sahara ZX.
UPDATE, 6/10/21 – More images have been released of the local 300 Series range. We’ve added these to this article. Our first review of the LC300 is coming soon.
Pricing is up by roughly $10,000 across the board, with the 300 Series range reaching showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2021.
The GR Sport, unlike other GR Sport models in the Toyota line-up, has a distinct off-road focus.
It was developed as a base vehicle for the Dakar Rally and features its own unique look, with the Toyota wordmark emblazoned across the gloss-black mesh grille, plus black 18-inch alloy wheels within black wheel arches.

Also finished in black are the side steps, door handles, mirror caps and window trim, while the front bumper and lower rear bumper are unpainted.
Inside, there’s a choice of two interior colourways: one black with carbon-look trim, and one finished in red-and-black with black instrument panel trim.
Underneath, there are front and rear differential locks and Toyota’s electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, which can independently lock and unlock the front and rear stabiliser bars.
Like the Sahara ZX, it also includes adaptive suspension and adaptive high-beam.

The Sahara ZX differs with a torque-sensing rear limited-slip differential. It also boasts a more luxurious look with a unique chrome grille and 20-inch alloy wheels, plus other luxurious touches like illuminated side steps.
Instead of woodgrain, there’s carbon-look trim. You can choose between black, beige and red-and-black colourways, while standard kit includes heated and ventilated seats and a hands-free power tailgate.
All 300 Series models come standard with autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and daytime cyclist detection, as well as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, and automatic high-beam.
The GXL and above add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Toyota Connected Services is standard and includes an SOS button, collision notification and stolen-vehicle tracking.

The GX and GXL’s touchscreen infotainment system has grown from 6.1 inches to 9.0 inches, while VX and above get an even larger 12.3-inch unit.
GX models use a new single-piece tailgate and gain LED headlights, keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control and a reversing camera.
The seven-seat GXL picks up wireless phone charging, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and Toyota’s multi-terrain select off-road drive modes.
The VX adds a speaker (now ten), a couple of cupholders (now eight) and a couple of climate control zones (now four), while its instrument cluster information screen grows from 4.2 inches to 7.0 inches.
Heated and ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable steering wheel and a surround-view camera are also now standard on the VX, while the erstwhile flagship, the Sahara, picks up a head-up display, 14-speaker JBL sound system, heated steering wheel, and a power-folding third-row.
It’s no longer top dog, though, with the introduction of the GR Sport and Sahara ZX.
“Our new GR Sport is the absolute expression of the LandCruiser DNA – the ultimate 4WD that is specially equipped for owners who truly love driving on rough trails and in off-road rallies,” said Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia’s vice president of sales, marketing and franchise operations.
“The graceful styling of the Sahara ZX adds an even more prestigious and advanced high-quality image for customers who use their LandCruiser primarily for urban driving and holiday getaways with their families.”
All prices exclude on-road costs.
Power in the 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series will come exclusively from a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel engine making 227kW of power and 700Nm of torque, the latter of which is on tap between 1600 and 2600rpm.
Although it’s down 1.2-litres and two cylinders on the outgoing LandCruiser 200, the new engine has 27kW and 50Nm more.
The standard transmission is a 10-speed automatic, and full-time four-wheel drive with a centre differential lock is standard.
Combined fuel economy for the 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series is 8.9L/100km on the combined cycle.
The car drinks diesel, and holds 110 litres of fuel split across an 80L main tank and 30L sub-tank.

The GX is 2000mm wide with a snorkel. The GXL, VX, Sahara, and ZX are 1980mm wide and the GR Sport is 1990mm wide.
The whole range is 1950mm tall, and rides on a 2850mm wheelbase.

All models have a 25-degree departure angle.
All models have a 3280kg gross vehicle mass, and a 3500kg braked towing capacity.
