Black is back.

Renault is once again offering a Black Edition of its Koleos for 2022, with just 400 units coming to Australia.

    It’s priced at $42,000 drive-away.

UPDATE, 02/06/2022 – Renault Australia has announced it will be doing a range-wide “price realignment” as of July 1, 2022. This is due to rising shipping costs and an increase in the price of raw materials.

The 2022 Renault Koleos range has had its before on-road cost pricing increased by between $610 and $1410, depending on the trim level. The range starts at $35,000 before on-road costs as of July 1, 2022.

Based on the mid-range Zen, the Black Edition features unique 19-inch alloy wheels – finished in dark grey, not black – plus gloss black roof rails and door mirrors.

Other exterior tweaks include side steps, ‘Limited’ badging, and French flags on the B-pillar. The only exterior colours are Black, Grey or Universal White.

Inside, there’s black leatherette upholstery with yellow stitching, matte carbon-look inserts, and ‘Limited’ badging on the chrome door sills.

The Black Edition also includes a hands-free power tailgate and an 8.7-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen.

For 2022, these features are also available in a new Easy Life Package on the Zen for $2000.

The Koleos has enjoyed a surge in popularity in the first two months of 2022, with Renault selling 818 so far. For context, the company sold 1937 Koleos models overall in 2021.

    Pricing

    • 2022 Renault Koleos Life: $35,000 (+$1410)
    • 2022 Renault Koleos Zen: $38,800 (+$610)
    • 2022 Renault Koleos Black Edition: $40,500 (+$410)
    • 2022 Renault Koleos Intens: $45,000 (+$1100)
    • 2022 Renault Koleos Intens AWD: $47,500 (+$1100)

    All prices exclude on-road costs.

    Engines

All 2022 Renault Koleos models use a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 126kW of power and 226Nm of torque, mated to a continuously-variable transmission.

It powers the front wheels in all models, though all-wheel drive is available on the flagship Intens.

    Fuel Economy

The 2022 Renault Koleos consumes 8.1L/100km on the combined cycle in front-wheel drive variants and 8.3L/100km combined on the Intens AWD.

It requires 91RON regular unleaded fuel.

    Dimensions

The 2022 Renault Koleos measures 4672mm long, 1678mm tall, and 1843mm wide (2063mm including the mirrors), riding a 2705mm wheelbase.

Kerb weight ranges from 1556kg in the Life to 1691kg in the all-wheel drive Intens.

There’s 458L of boot space, expanding to 1690L with the rear seats folded.

All models have a 17-inch steel spare under the boot floor.

    Servicing and Warranty

The Koleos requires servicing every 12 months or 30,000km, whichever comes first. The mileage interval is surprisingly long for this segment, considering most rivals require servicing every 12 months or 10-15,000km.

In addition to a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty, Renault offers five years of capped price servicing. Each service is capped at $429 except the 120,000km service, which costs $999.

    Safety

When ANCAP tested the Koleos in 2017, it awarded it a rating of five stars.

That rating was based on an adult occupant protection score of 84 per cent, child occupant protection score of 79 per cent, vulnerable road user protection score of 62 per cent and a safety assist score of 52 per cent.

All Koleos models come standard with the following:

    • Autonomous emergency braking
    • Lane-departure warning
    • Front, front-side and curtain airbags
    • Reversing camera and rear parking sensors

The Zen, Black Edition and Intens also include blind-spot monitoring and front and side parking sensors.

    • Satellite navigation
    • Hands-free power tailgate
    • 19-inch alloy wheels
    • Gloss-black roof rails and door mirrors

There’s no charge for these colours in the Black Edition, though Millesim Red isn’t available.
