Is the recipe from the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT being applied to the Panamera?
Porsche has been snapped testing a Panamera with a new front bumper, new interior, and tweaked details.
Under the skin though, our spy photographer says Porsche is working on a Panamera Turbo GT with the same 4.0-litre V8 engine making 471kW of power and 850Nm as the uber-SUV.
The current range-topping Panamera is the Turbo S e-Hybrid which is more powerful, with 514kW and 870Nm, but is also heavier and more complex than the Cayenne Turbo GT because it’s a plug-in hybrid with a 17.9kWh battery pack.
Two prototypes are pictured here. One has a conventional front bumper (left), the other (right) has an extra intake above the number plate to feed a hungry engine.
Not much appears to have changed with the tail lights and headlights, but the cabin of both cars has been completely covered up, suggesting the Panamera is in for a cabin tweak.
Given it already has the same digital dials as the 911, it’s not clear what updates a fresh Panamera could get.
Porsche only last year updated the Panamera, which suggests an all-new model or a full facelift is unlikely in the immediate future.
But a second facelift isn’t entirely off the cards, given what Porsche has recently done with the Macan.
There’s an all-electric Macan coming, but the internal combustion engine-powered model has been given a new lease on life in its twilight years.
It’s received a series of mechanical and aesthetic updates, as well as a reshuffling of the range and specifications.
The upcoming electric Macan will share the Audi and Porsche co-developed Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with the upcoming Audi Q5 E-Tron. It’s set for launch in 2022.
