The wild 992-series Porsche 911 GT3 RS has been spied against the bucolic backdrop of Nürburg in Germany.
Still undergoing testing on the Nürburgring, the wild 911 variant wears a towering, dual-tier rear wing that’s even taller than the single-tier, swan-neck unit on the 2021 GT3.
It’s unclear if this will be used on the production vehicle.
Look beyond the wild wing and you’ll see numerous changes designed to improve aerodynamics.
There are vents on top of the front fenders, as well as what appear to be louvered air outlets at the rear of the front fenders towards the doors.
Likewise, the air vents on the bonnet are different to those of the GT3.
Porsche also appears to have reverted to more conventional door handles instead of the pop-out kind that was introduced with the 992 generation.
Expect a higher-output version of the 992 GT3’s engine.
The GT3 uses a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six engine with 375kW of power and a 9000rpm redline, good for a 3.4-second sprint to 100km/h with the seven-speed PDK transmission fitted.
The engine is derived from the unit in the 911 R endurance racer, and is actually used in the 911 Cup car with minimal changes.
Given the last GT3 RS was available only with a seven-speed PDK, we expect the new car to follow suit even though a six-speed manual is available in the GT3.
The GT3 posted an impressive lap time at the ‘Ring of 6:59.927 minutes.
With the aerodynamic enhancements of the new RS, it could come closer to the 6:47.3 time of the twin-turbocharged 515kW/750Nm 991.2 GT2 RS
