    2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV spied

Mercedes-Benz is embarking on a big electric push, and the EQS SUV will sit at the top of the tree. Expect impressive range and even more impressive luxury.

Mercedes-Benz’s flagship electric SUV, the EQS, has been spotted in the snow.

Based on the brand’s new Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA), it’ll slot above the EQC and upcoming EQE SUVs.

The new EVA platform will also underpin a flagship liftback called the EQS, plus a smaller EQE sedan and the aforementioned EQE SUV.

The EQS will be the first of these to launch and is slated to debut next year, with the EQS SUV and the two EQE-badged models following.

While still curvaceous, the EQS SUV has a fairly upright, traditional SUV silhouette, in contrast to the swoopy and sleek EQS liftback.

Earlier spy photos have revealed the interior is heavily inspired by that of the new S-Class, with a large piano black sweep stretching from the centre console up the dashboard and housing the portrait infotainment system.

Its EQS liftback counterpart will have a claimed 700km of electric range under WLTP standards, identical to the 2019 Vision EQS concept that previewed it.

That concept featured a 100kWh lithium-ion battery and was said to hit 100km/h from a standing start in 4.5 seconds.

No technical details have been released for the EQS SUV, though we expect it to be a similar size to the internal combustion engine-powered GLS.
