The shapely Cupra Formentor crossover has been priced ahead of its local launch in July.
A sleeker counterpart to the more upright Cupra Ateca and expected to be the brand’s best seller locally, the Formentor will offer a choice of four different powertrains like the Cupra Leon hatchback.
The base V and range-topping VZx are all-wheel drive, while the VZ and plug-in hybrid VZe are front-wheel drive.
All are powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, though the VZe PHEV naturally includes an electric motor.
They’re also all backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, with Cupra also including three years of free servicing.
The fixed-price range opens at $50,690 before on-roads for the V, though Cupra has also revealed drive-away pricing for the range.
The Formentor is the first bespoke model for the Cupra brand, which otherwise consists of modified versions of Seat models. Globally, it’s the brand’s best seller.
All prices exclude on-road costs.
Cupra has also announced the following drive-away prices:
Each member of the four-strong 2022 Cupra Formentor range comes with its own powertrain.
The Formentor V is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 140kW of power and 320Nm of torque.
It’s mated with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
The Formentor VZ also uses a seven-speed dual-clutch and a turbocharged 2.0-litre, but its engine produces 180kW and 370Nm and it’s front-wheel drive.
The Formentor VZe mates a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, for total system outputs of 180kW and 400Nm. It uses a six-speed wet dual-clutch auto.
The range-topping Formentor VZx uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre with 228kW and 400Nm. It’s all-wheel drive.
Cupra hasn’t yet released local fuel economy figures for the Formentor range.
The 2022 Cupra Formentor measures 4446mm long, 1839mm wide, 1520mm tall and rides a 2680mm wheelbase.
The Cupra Formentor is covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
Cupra also includes three years of free servicing.
