Chevrolet’s rival to the Tesla Model 3 has been given a glow-up.
The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt has been revealed for the USA with a tougher exterior and redesigned interior, along with a high-riding new Bolt EUV brother.
Power in both cars comes from a single 150kW/360Nm front-mounted electric motor hooked up to a 65kWh battery pack good for 416km of range in the Bolt, and 402km in the larger Bolt EUV.
Bigger changes have been wrought on the outside where, as spy photos exclusively published by CarExpert last year revealed, the Bolt has a tough new two-tier face.
Gone are the slightly rounded headlights and contrast grille insert, replaced with a variation of the face from the Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV.
The EUV has a similar look, albeit with a unique grille insert to reinforce the fact it’s the tougher, more rugged choice.
It has a 75mm longer wheelbase than the regular Bolt, and its body is 161mm longer overall. It’s also 5mm wider and 5mm taller.
Chevrolet says there’s 75mm more rear legroom in the EUV than in the regular Bolt, making it a more family-friendly option.
Inside, both Bolt models benefit from an updated interior with a 10.2-inch central infotainment display and a revised 8.0-inch instrument binnacle capable of showing more real-time drive information than before.
The Bolt EUV also debuts the Super Cruise semi-autonomous drive assistant for Chevrolet.
Capable of hands-free lane-keeping on more than 320,000km of mapped highways in North America, the system debuted in the Cadillac CT6 large sedan and is GM’s answer to Tesla Autopilot.
Pricing for the Bolt in the USA has been slashed by US$5000 ($6440) to US$31,995 ($41,206), while the Bolt EUV kicks off at US$33,995 ($43,780).
