The 2021 Volkswagen Touareg Wolfsburg Edition has been detailed for the Australian market, due to arrive in March next year priced from $119,990 plus on-road costs.
Volkswagen Australia has secured a run of 300 vehicles – 200 V6 TDIs and 100 V8 TDIs – all based on the European-market Touareg Black Edition.
As tends to be the case with Volkswagen Wolfsburg Editions, the Touareg special comes completely loaded with equipment regardless of which powertrain you choose. There are some firsts for the local range, too.
The ‘Black Style’ R-Line Package makes its debut in the Australian market, bringing blacked-out elements for the front grille, mirror caps, window trims, headlight surrounds, roof rails, as well as the 21-inch Suzuka alloy wheels.
Also making a first appearance (for V6 models) are Night Vision cameras and direct tyre pressure monitoring (usually reserved for the incoming V8 TDI R-Line) while soft-closing doors are a first for the Touareg range in Australia too.
The Touareg Wolfsburg V8 TDI (from $139,990) brings an additional 100 units powered by a 310kW/900Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo diesel V8, joining the 200 examples of the standard V8 TDI R-Line due before the end of 2020.
Meanwhile, the Touareg Wolfsburg V6 TDI is based on the new Euro 6-certified 210kW/600Nm 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel also due before the end of the year. Both engine variants are equipped with an eight-speed ZF torque converter automatic and 4Motion all-wheel drive with Torsen centre differential.
Volkswagen claims the V6 TDI can accelerate from 0-100km/h in a Golf GTI-rivalling 6.5 seconds, while the V8 TDI turns it up to Golf R performance levels with a claimed 4.9-second dash to triple figures.

The Touareg Wolfsburg V6 TDI commands a $11,500 premium over the equivalent 2021 V6 TDI R-Line, though that’s offset by the added exclusive equipment. The Wolfsburg V8 TDI costs $3500 more than the regular V8 TDI R-Line.
A total of four exterior paint finishes will be available for both variants; one standard and three extra-cost options. Pure White is a no-cost solid finish, while Deep Black Pearl, Antimonial Silver Metallic, and the Wolfsburg-exclusive Midnight Blue Metallic all command a $2100 premium.
The only other option is a panoramic sunroof, which asks for an additional $3000.
Like the wider Volkswagen range, the Touareg Wolfsburg Editions are covered by the local arm’s five-year, unlimited-kilometre factory warranty.
Volkswagen Australia offers three- and five-year Car Plans for scheduled maintenance, priced at $1350 and $2500 respectively. The five-year plan also includes a free first service.
The updated 2021 Volkswagen Touareg line-up will lob before the end of this year, bringing a revised variant range as well as newer, cleaner Euro 6 diesel engines.
