Volkswagen Australia has recalled the 2021 Touareg to fix a problem with the rear axle assembly.

According to the company, “some nuts fitted to the rear axle assembly did not meet manufacturing specifications and may break”.

“A broken nut may lead to increased movement between the wishbone and hub carrier and a change in the wheel alignment on the rear axle,” it says in its recall notice.

“A sudden uncontrollable movement of the rear axle cannot be ruled out and increases the risk of injury/death to vehicle occupants or other road users.”

    • A total of 67 vehicles are included in the recall notice
    • VIN lists are attached here, here, and here
    • The original recall notice is attached here

Owners of the affected cars are being advised to get in touch with their nearest dealer to organise a free fix.
