Suzuki is celebrating its centennial with a special edition of one of its longest-running nameplates.
Priced at $24,990 drive-away, the 2021 Suzuki Swift 100 Year Anniversary Edition is available to order from April 1, 2021.
Just 100 units will be available nationwide, all equipped with a continuously-variable transmission.
The 100 Year Anniversary Edition is based on the base GL Navigator and is available only in Burning Red or Speedy Blue, both of which are available exclusively with a black roof.
Over the GL Navigator it adds cosmetic tweaks: the black roof, a matching rear spoiler, carbon fibre decal at the front, and black stripe decals down the sides.
That means it shares the same standard equipment list as the GL Navigator, which includes:
- 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- Satellite navigation
- Wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Four-speaker sound system
- Cruise control
- 16-inch alloy wheels
- LED daytime running lights
- Front fog lights
- Privacy glass
For comparison, the GL Navigator auto costs $21,990 drive-away, though adding metallic paint brings that up to $22,585 drive-away.
The Swift is currently Suzuki’s best-selling model in Australia, though it fell narrowly behind the Vitara crossover last year with 4332 sales against 4386 for its bigger sibling.
It’s also Suzuki’s oldest nameplate here, having first appeared in 1985 on the first-generation Cultus hatchback.
That makes it older than Vitara (1988), Baleno (1995), Jimny (1998), Ignis (2000) and S-Cross (2013).
Suzuki was initially founded as a manufacturer of looms in 1909, though it was reorganised and incorporated in 1920.
While it began development of motor vehicles in 1937, World War II thwarted Michio Suzuki’s plans to sell cars. His company wouldn’t begin volume production of cars until the 1950s.
