The ACCC and Subaru have gone official.
The 2021 Subaru Outback is being officially recalled for a pre-collision braking problem identified earlier this week.
This is directly related to the stop-delivery issued on March 22, when dealers were to stop handing the latest Outback wagon to customers as Subaru worked with head office in Japan to resolve a then-undisclosed problem.
“The stereo camera may mis-recognise roadside objects and/or miscalculate the travelling direction of an oncoming vehicle, resulting in the system unexpectedly activating the pre-collision braking feature,” Subaru says in its recall notice.
“Unexpected activation of the pre-collision braking feature may lead to an accident-causing injury or death of vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”
Owners of these affected vehicles will be contacted by Subaru in order to organise a free fix.
If you have further questions or concerns, you can contact the Subaru Customer Relations Team at 1800 226 643.
