The cheapest way into a new Subaru has become marginally more expensive for 2021.

The Subaru Impreza, the brand’s entry-level model in Australia, now starts at $23,990 before on-road costs. That’s an increase of $250, and similar increases have been applied across the board.

There are otherwise no changes to the Impreza for 2021. The current model was introduced in the 2017 model year.

It was long ago overtaken by the Forester in sales and its successful, higher-riding XV spin-off has knocked it down another peg, while last year it was even outsold by the Outback.

Its relative standing in the small car segment hasn’t changed much over the years.

It continues to be consistently outsold by the rival Hyundai i30, Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla, but it does a better trade than the Ford Focus.
