A new front-end design, redesigned dashboard and more safety features headline the changes to the people-mover versions of the Renault Trafic in Europe.
According to a Renault Australia head office source, the facelift only applies to multi-seat variants of the Trafic range and there are “no plans” to bring these Down Under.
Revealed overnight in Europe, the revised Trafic Combi/Passenger and SpaceClass models feature a new set of rectangular headlights, a larger and squarer grille, along with a new front bumper with simplified lower air intake treatment.
It also features a new bonnet pressing with multiple bulges and grooves for a more assertive appearance.
So far no pictures of the Trafic’s rear have been revealed, suggesting changes at the back will be minimal to non-existent.
Inside there’s a completely new dashboard top featuring a strong horizontal design theme, improved materials with a “more premium feel”, and space for a new free-standing 8.0-inch Easy Link touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Ahead of the driver there’s the company’s latest steering wheel design and a new instrumentation panel.
Other changes include the availability of wireless smartphone charging, a new gear shifter design, extra storage spaces, and a splash of chrome for the air conditioning controls.
The safety suite has been upgraded with the addition of autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and a new front passenger airbag that now offers protection to person sitting in the central seating position.
As far as drivetrains go, the Trafic gains an updated mid-range 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine variant with 112kW, up around 3kW from before. This motor can be paired with a six-speed manual or dual-clutch auto transmission.
The 82kW manual and 125kW dual-clutch 2.0-litre turbo-diesel drivetrains, which are currently available in the Australian Trafic cargo range, are unchanged.
The facelifted Trafic passenger range goes on sale in Europe from early 2021.
