2021 Renault Megane price and specs

Renault has trimmed its Megane hot hatch range further for 2021, eliminating the R.S. Sport and R.S. Cup models.

The 2021 Renault Megane range now consists solely of the R.S. Trophy, available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The updated model arrives here in March.

Prices are up by $500 to $53,990 before on-road costs for the manual and $56,990 before on-roads for the auto.

There’s some additional equipment, however, including low-speed autonomous emergency braking.

The 7.0-inch driver display is now a 10.0-inch display, while the portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system has grown from 8.7 inches to 9.3 inches.

Renault has been narrowing its Megane range since the fourth-generation model launched in 2016, culling the sedan, wagon and three-door hatchback models in 2018 and any remaining non-R.S. models in 2019.

The company has also said it’s focusing on its SUV and commercial vehicle range in Australia, nixing its plans to bring the latest Clio and Zoe.

Despite this, Renault Australia has committed to the Megane.

“The Megane R.S. is a staple of our line-up and we are looking forward to an updated version of our popular hot hatch arriving in the first half of 2021,” said a spokesperson from Renault Australia.

Engines

The 2021 Renault Megane is powered by a turbocharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine producing 221kW of power and 420Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Fuel Economy

The 2021 Renault Megane consumes 7.5L/100km on the combined cycle and requires 98RON premium unleaded fuel.

Dimensions

The 2021 Renault Megane measures 4364mm long, 1875mm wide and 1435mm tall.

It has 434L of luggage space, expanding to 1247L with the rear seats folded.

Servicing

The 2021 Renault Megane is covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

Renault offers three years of capped-price servicing for the Megane, with each service costing $349. It requires servicing every 12 months or 30,000km, whichever comes first.

Safety

While the current-generation Renault Megane doesn’t have a rating from ANCAP, the safety agency’s European counterpart Euro NCAP awarded it five stars in 2015.

All 2021 Meganes come standard with the following safety equipment:

• Autonomous emergency braking
• Blind-spot monitoring
• Lane-departure warning
• Front, front-side and curtain airbags

Standard Equipment

Available options include a panoramic sunroof and a performance package with Recaro sports seats and Fuji lightweight alloy wheels.
