The 2021 Genesis G70 has been treated to an exterior makeover that’s brought with it more tech, more standard equipment, but higher prices.
The exterior refresh includes Genesis’ now signature “Quad lamp” LED headlights and tail lights.
Also in alignment with its other products, Genesis has trimmed the previous six-variant range to just two models with two major option packages.
Pricing now starts at $63,000 before on-road costs, or $3700 more than before, but there’s plenty of extra kit.
There’s been a significant upgrade in safety kit, with all models gaining lane-following assist, safe exit warning and rear occupant alert, plus a junction-turning function for the autonomous emergency braking.
The outgoing car’s blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert have been upgraded to blind-spot assist and rear cross-traffic assist, which means the car will apply the brakes if it detects an imminent collision.

There are now 10 airbags on board, including a front-centre bag and rear side airbags, while the Hyundai Motor Group’s new blind-spot view monitor is also standard fit.
All models now also feature ventilated front seats, a sunroof and a surround-view camera as standard, as well as electro-chromic, heated and power-folding exterior mirrors.
Inside the G70, there’s a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and the Sounds of Nature app now found on almost every new Genesis, Hyundai and Kia product.

The interior looks much the same as before but there’s also an updated 8.0-inch screen in the instrument cluster, plus a larger wireless charging pad with an increased output of 15W and an integrated cooling fan.
Other interior tweaks include revised quilting for the seats and geometric patterned trim inserts.
The G70 also has new capacitive locking and unlocking pads in the front exterior door handles, allowing you to simply grab the handle to unlock and open the door.
2.0T models upgrade from 18- to 19-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, while the 3.3T Sport has a new Sport+ drive mode and an active variable exhaust.

The Sport+ mode turns the traction control off, adjusts the transmission and throttle and, in the 3.3T Sport, features a ‘track-ready’ suspension setting.
While powertrains are carried over, the twin-turbo V6 has received a 2kW bump in power to 274kW courtesy of the new exhaust.
The Australian-specific suspension tune is unchanged for 2021, with the 2.0T using passive dampers and the 3.3T Sport featuring adaptive suspension.
As on the redesigned G80 and GV80, there’s a Luxury Package available which costs a substantial $10,000.
It brings with it a 12.3-inch, 3D-effect digital instrument cluster with forward-attention warning, as well as a head-up display, Genesis’ Intelligent Front-Lighting System, heated rear seats, power boot-lid, a 15-speaker Lexicon sound system, and a 16-way power driver’s seat with memory.
There’s also Nappa leather upholstery, suede headlining and pillars and a heated, electronic tilt and telescopic steering wheel.
A $4000 Sport Line package on the 2.0T also includes a limited-slip differential, Brembo brakes and dark chrome exterior finishes, which are standard on the 3.3T Sport.
The 3.3T Sport is visually distinguished by its twin oval-shaped exhaust outlets and a body-colour rear diffuser.

Engines
The 2021 Genesis G70 is available with a choice of two engines.
The 2.0T uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 179kW of power and 353Nm of torque.
The 3.3T Sport upgrades to a twin-turbocharged 3.3-litre V6 producing 274kW of power and 510Nm of torque.
All G70 models are rear-wheel drive and use an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
Fuel Economy
The 2021 Genesis G70 uses 9.0L/100km on the combined cycle in the 2.0T and 10.1L/100km in the 3.3T.
The G70 has a 60L fuel tank and requires 95RON premium unleaded fuel.
Dimensions
The 2021 Genesis G70 measures 4685mm long, 1850mm wide and 1400mm tall on a 2835mm wheelbase.
The G70 has 330L of luggage space. Under the boot floor is a space-saver spare.
Servicing and Warranty
The 2021 Genesis G70 is covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and comes with five years or 50,000km of free scheduled servicing.
If you own a G70, you can also use the Genesis Concierge Service if you live within 70km of a Genesis Studio. This means an employee will come to your house and leave you with a Genesis loan car while your car is taken to be serviced.
Safety
The Genesis G70 has a five-star rating from ANCAP, based on testing conducted by ANCAP in 2018.
It received an adult occupant protection score of 81 per cent, a child occupant protection score of 86 per cent, a vulnerable road user protection score of 69 per cent, and a safety assist score of 81 per cent.
