The 2021 BMW X4 is getting spruced up a little, both inside and out.
The updated X4 and its X3 sibling are expected to debut later this year.
As part of a mid-cycle upgrade, there’ll be changes to the headlights and tail lights.
The slightly slimmer-looking headlights adopt a similar LED daytime running light signature to those of the 2021 BMW 5 Series.
The grille is also being updated, though don’t expect anything quite as dramatic as the grille on the BMW 4 Series, M3 and M4.
Instead, expect to see the double kidneys become more conjoined, with the body-colour metal in between them replaced by a thin strip of chrome.
The front and rear bumpers are also camouflaged on this prototype, indicating there’ll be changes to those, too.
Inside, there’s a larger touchscreen for the infotainment system.
There’s still a conventional shifter but it has shrunk slightly, while there’s also a restyled rotary dial for the infotainment.
The centre console has also been rearranged slightly with new buttons.
It isn’t clear yet whether there’ll be any changes to the powertrain line-up.
The current X4 is available in Australia with four powertrains.
The xDrive20i and xDrive30i both use turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engines, with the former producing 135kW of power and 300Nm of torque and the latter producing 185kW of power and 350Nm of torque.
Stepping up to the M40i gets you a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six with 265kW of power and 500Nm of torque, while the range-topping X4 M Competition has a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six with 375kW of power and 600Nm of torque.
