BMW has upped the price of its M5 Competition super sedan by $10,000.

The updated M5 Competition will be priced from $244,900 before on-road costs when it touches down in October this year, up from the current $234,900 before on-roads starting price.

Despite the price boost, the updated M5 Competition still undercuts the Mercedes-AMG E63 S by $4000. It also shares its engine with the M8 Competition, which is more than $100,000 more expensive.

The 2021 M5 Competition has a new look, new technology, and a revised chassis to match its boosted price. The latest BMW OS7.0 infotainment system replaces the outgoing iDrive setup inside, while the exterior has a more aggressive new face in keeping with the wider 5 Series range update.

Under the skin, it rides on revised dampers inspired by those of the M8 Competition.

Power in the M5 Competition comes from a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 460kW and 750Nm, the same as the outgoing M5, along with the X5 M and X6 M Competition.

It’s put to a switchable all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed torque converter transmission. The 100km/h sprint is dispatched in just 3.3 seconds, and you’ll be doing 200km/h in just 10.8 seconds from standstill.
