Audi’s all-electric cousin to the Porsche Taycan will offer supercar-rivalling performance.
The 2021 Audi E-Tron GT will pack 475kW (440kW without overboost) of power and 830Nm of torque, good for a 100km/h sprint in less than 3.5 seconds.
Like the Porsche, the E-Tron GT will feature a gut-churning launch control system capable of repeated full-bore launches like the Taycan.
That makes it slightly less powerful than the Porsche Taycan Turbo and its 500kW powertrain, and down 20Nm of torque.
Under the skin is a 93.4kWh battery pack, the same size as the larger option in the Porsche Taycan.
The E-Tron GT concept was powered by a pair of electric motors and a 90kWh lithium-ion battery, with a combined system output of 434kW and an estimated range of 400km under the tougher WLTP standard. Audi claimed a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds.
Although Audi hasn’t revealed a range claim for the car, expect upwards of 400km based on the Taycan’s figures. There’s 270kW ultra-fast charging on public DC chargers.
The GT will tip the scales at 2300kg despite lightweight options such as a carbon fibre roof, split 50/50 over both axles.
Under the skin is a three-chamber air suspension system, which shares its bones with the system in the Taycan.
But the E-Tron will have a more languid tune in Comfort mode in keeping with its grand tourer billing, Audi has confirmed. Rear-wheel steering will feature, too.
Audi is currently gearing up to build the E-Tron GT alongside the R8 supercar at its Bollinger Höfe factory in Neckarsulm, Germany. The company is currently building the final pre-production models before it ramps up to deliver cars to the public.
A production debut for the E-Tron GT is on track for early next year, with production to start for Europe and the USA in the middle of 2021.
