Look out Porsche Taycan, the Audi E-Tron GT RS is coming.
Audi has confirmed its upcoming E-Tron GT electric four-door will get a performance RS flagship.
“We are taking things another step further,” Audi CEO Markus Duesmann yesterday told media in a pre-recorded message.
“I am pleased to announce today that there also an RS version of the E-Tron GT, which will be launched together with the E-Tron GT.”
Exactly how fast the RS version of Audi’s four-door twin to the Porsche Taycan will be remains to be seen.
The E-Tron GT concept was powered by a pair of electric motors and a 90kWh lithium-ion battery, with a combined system output of 434kW and an estimated range of 400km under the tougher WLTP standard. Audi claimed a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds.
That puts it between the Porsche Taycan 4S and Taycan Turbo on the performance front, and almost perfectly matches both for range on the WLTP test.
An E-Tron GT RS could nudge Audi closer to the Porsche Taycan Turbo S for performance, with its dual-motor powertrain making 560kW of power and 1050Nm of torque, and its claimed 100km/h sprint time of just 2.8 seconds.
The fastest petrol-powered Audi RS models (the RS6 and RS7) can hit 100km/h in 3.6 seconds.
Audi is currently gearing up to build the E-Tron GT alongside the R8 supercar at its Bollinger Höfe factory in Neckarsulm, Germany. The company is currently building the final pre-production models, before it ramps up to deliver cars to the public.
A production debut for the E-Tron GT is expected by the end of this year, with deliveries likely to begin in Europe next year.
