Alfa Romeo’s BMW X3 rival has ditched diesel and added a bunch of extra kit at the entry-level.
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio range has a new Sport trim, priced at $69,950 before on-road costs.
UPDATE, 18/06/2021 –Alfa Romeo has revealed pricing for the rest of the Stelvio range, while the previously announced Sport has received a $500 price rise. We’ve updated the article below.
The Stelvio range is in Australian dealerships now.
The Sport costs $3550 more than last year’s base model, which was simply called Stelvio, though Alfa Romeo says it offers eight per cent more value.
The unnamed base model has received some more equipment, though it’s now a special order-only vehicle.
The Stelvio Sport’s suite of active safety and driver assist features includes adaptive cruise control, driver attention monitoring, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, and blind-spot assist.
The latter will provide steering intervention if it detects you’re crossing into the path of another vehicle, instead of providing only audiovisual alerts.
All bar adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition also now feature on the special order-only base model.
The Sport is distinguished visually via a gloss black daylight opening, red brake calipers, rear privacy glass, and aluminium pedals.
A full breakdown of equipment for each variant is detailed further down in the article.
As with the updated Giulia, the infotainment system is new, though it still uses an 8.8-inch touchscreen. The centre console also boasts an improved design with nicer materials.
The new Veloce replaces the Ti as part of an alignment in nomenclature with the Giulia range.
The Stelvio diesel is gone as part of a move away from diesel by Stellantis’ former FCA brands, which has also seen the demise of all diesel Maserati models locally and a shift to a petrol-only range for the next-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Price excludes on-road costs.
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio, in base and Sport trims, is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol four-cylinder engine producing 147kW of power and 330Nm of torque. The Stelvio Veloce has the same size engine but produces 206kW and 400Nm.
The range-topping Stelvio Quadrifoglio has a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 engine producing 375kW of power and 600Nm of torque.
All models feature an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
The Stelvio Sport does the 0-100km/h dash in 7.2 seconds, while the Stelvio Veloce takes 5.7 seconds and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio takes 3.8 seconds.
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio uses 7.0L/100km on the combined cycle in the base, Sport and Veloce variants and 10.2L/100km in the Quadrifoglio.
All models have a 64L fuel tank.
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio measures 4687mm long, 1903mm wide and 1648mm tall, with a 2818mm wheelbase.
The Quadrifoglio’s dimensions are slightly different, at 4701mm long, 1955mm wide and 1689mm tall.
It has 525L of luggage space, or 499L with the optional space-saver spare in place of the tyre repair kit. This expands to 1600L with the rear seats folded.
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio is covered by a three-year/150,000km warranty.
Alfa Romeo offers five years of capped-price servicing, with servicing intervals of 12 months or 15,000km.
The first five services cost $345, $645, $465, $1065 and $345 in models with the 2.0-litre, and $894, $1346, $894, $2627 and $883 in the Quadrifoglio.
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio has a five-star rating from ANCAP based on Euro NCAP testing conducted in 2017.
The Stelvio received an adult occupant protection score of 97 per cent, a child occupant protection score of 84 per cent, a pedestrian protection score of 71 per cent, and a safety assist score of 60 per cent.
