The 2020 Mitsubishi ASX is available in six different trim levels, with prices ranging from $23,990 before on-road costs for the base ES manual to $33,240 before on-road costs for the Exceed auto.
The ASX is Mitsubishi’s venerable small SUV, first introduced in 2010 and facelifted four times since then – including a refresh for 2020.
It’s a more spacious rival to crossovers such as the Mazda CX-3.
All prices exclude on-road costs
Most 2020 Mitsubishi ASX models use a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 110kW and 197Nm. It’s mated to a continuously-variable transmission (CVT), though the base ES comes standard with a five-speed manual.
The 2020 Mitsubishi ASX GSR and Exceed use a naturally-aspirated 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine producing 123kW and 222Nm and mated exclusively to a continuously-variable transmission (CVT).
All ASXs are front-wheel drive.
When equipped with the 2.0-litre four-cylinder, the 2020 Mitsubishi ASX consumes 7.7L/100km on the combined cycle with the CVT and 7.6L/100km with the five-speed manual.
With the 2.4-litre four-cylinder, the 2020 Mitsubishi ASX consumes 7.9L/100km on the combined cycle.
All ASX models run on 91RON regular unleaded fuel.
The 2020 Mitsubishi ASX measures 4365mm long, 1640mm tall and 1810mm wide.
The Mitsubishi ASX’s total luggage space is 393L, increasing to 1193L with the rear seats folded.
When the Mitsubishi ASX was tested by ANCAP in 2014, it received a rating of five stars.
This rating was based on a frontal offset score of 14.13 out of 16 and a side impact score of 16 out of 16. Whiplash and pedestrian protection were rated Good and Acceptable, respectively.
All 2020 Mitsubishi ASX models come standard with autonomous emergency braking, anti-lock brakes, and front, front-side and curtain airbags plus a driver’s knee airbag.
Starting with the Mitsubishi ASX ES ADAS, standard active safety technology includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.
The base 2020 Mitsubishi ASX ES comes with the following standard features:
The Mitsubishi ASX MR adds the following standard features:
The Mitsubishi ASX ES ADAS drops the ASX MR’s additional features except the fog lights and parking sensors but adds:
The Mitsubishi ASX LS adds the following standard features:
The Mitsubishi ASX GSR adds the following standard features:
The range-topping Mitsubishi ASX Exceed also has the 2.4-litre engine but doesn’t include the GSR’s extra features, instead adding the following over the LS:
The 2020 Mitsubishi ASX requires servicing every 12 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first.
Mitsubishi is currently offering a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and two years of free servicing. Since 2017, Mitsubishi has offered three years of capped price servicing with the first three services costing $199.
