The base price of the 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia is unchanged from 2020, as is the model range and equipment list.
The range received interior upgrades including a new infotainment system operable by touch for the 2020 model year. Safety upgrades across the range include the introduction of lane-keeping assist and traffic sign recognition, as well as Alfa Romeo’s Active Blind Spot Assist which can adjust your steering if it detects you crossing into the path of another vehicle.
The pre-update base Giulia and Giulia Super were replaced with a new entry-level model, the Giulia Sport, priced from $63,950 before on-road costs.
The new base model receives a raft of kit previously optional or restricted to higher-spec models. This includes heated front sports seats, a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, adaptive high beam, and wireless phone charging.
As the name suggests, the base Giulia has a sportier look than the old base model, even scoring the 19-inch, five-hole alloy wheels, gloss black exterior trim and red brake calipers from the Veloce as well as aluminium pedals and a sportier steering wheel inside.
You’ll still need to step up to the Veloce to get the more powerful version of the turbocharged 2.0-litre four, however, as well as the limited-slip differential.
The Sport also features the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Previously, only the Super and above had an 8.8-inch screen.
Alfa Romeo also rid the centre console of much of its unsightly black plastic, a gripe we had when we last tested a Giulia.

Engines
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia is available with three engines.
The base Giulia Sport uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 147kW of power and 330Nm of torque. Alfa Romeo claims a 0-100km/h time of 6.6 seconds.
The mid-range Giulia Veloce also uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four, though it produces 206kW of power and 400Nm of torque and can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.8 seconds.
The range-topping Giulia Quadrifoglio is powered by a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing 375kW of power and 600Nm of torque, good for a 0-100km/h time of just 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 307km/h.
All Giulias use an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.
Fuel Economy
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia consumes 6.0L/100km on the combined cycle in Sport trim, 6.1L/100km in the Veloce and 8.2L/100km in the Quadrifoglio.
All Giulias require 95RON premium unleaded fuel as a minimum.
Dimensions
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia measures 4643mm long, 1860mm wide and 1436mm tall in Sport and Veloce guise. The Quadrifoglio measures 4639mm long, 1873mm wide and 1426mm tall.
Luggage volume is 480L.
Safety
The Giulia has a five-star safety rating from ANCAP, based on testing from 2016. It received a score of 98 per cent for adult occupant protection, 81 per cent for child occupant protection, 69 per cent for pedestrian protection, and 60 per cent for safety assist.
All Giulias come standard with autonomous emergency braking with forward-collision warning and pedestrian recognition, as well as lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition as well as front, front-side and curtain airbags.

Servicing
The Giulia requires servicing every 12 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first.
In addition to a three-year, 150,000km warranty, Alfa Romeo offers five years of capped-price servicing, with services costing $345, $645, $465, $1065 and $345, respectively, on the Sport and Veloce.
Service prices are considerably more expensive on the high-performance Quadrifoglio. The first five services cost $685, $1095, $685, $2095 and $685, respectively.
