Potentially faulty weld seams in the rear bumper could prove hazardous if the vehicle needs to be towed, according to Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall for 45 examples of the current-generation GLE SUV over concerns of a faulty rear bumper cross member.
“The weld seams’ strength on the rear bumper cross member might not meet the required specification,” the company says in its recall notice.
“In the event of a vehicle breakdown, if the rear towing eye is used for winching a vehicle onto a tow truck, cracks might occur in the weld seams and the rear cross member may detach from the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident and serious injury or death of vehicle occupants and other road users.”
Owners of the affected GLE vehicles are asked to get in touch with their preferred Mercedes-Benz dealer for a replacement of the rear bumper cross member.
