Hyundai Australia has recalled the 2018-20 Kona Electric and 2019-20 Nexo to fix a problem with their regenerative braking software.
According to the company a “software fault in the Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB)” which controls the car’s regenerative braking “may significantly reduce braking performance”.
“The vehicle’s stopping distance may be longer than usual. This increases the risk of an accident resulting in injuries or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users,” it said.
- A total of 1048 Kona and 24 Nexo vehicles are included in the recall
- Affected vehicles were sold between 1 May 2018 and 31 December 2020

Hyundai Australia will contact owners of the affected vehicles and advise them to organise a free fix with their nearest dealer.
In the meantime, the company is advising owners to “drive with caution until their vehicle is repaired as the vehicle may take a greater distance to stop”.
